The Hot(Box) Toddy

You'd be hard pressed to find a hot toddy that doesn't hit the spot when the winter wind is whipping around. But it might be harder still to find a version of this classic winter drink that's as layered and satisfying as this recipe concocted by Alex Howard— owner and cocktail mastermind at Martha My Dear in Nashville, TN. The ginger, allspice, and cardamom in Artet play incredibly well with notes of pomegranate and natural sugar. Add some steam, and you've got yourself the drink of the season.

  1. Heat 1 cup of 100% pomegranate juice and 1 cup of granulated sugar in a pot at low temperature.
  2. Stir frequently until sugar is dissolved. 
  3. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  4. Warm an Irish coffee glass with hot water, then discard water.
  5. Add ingredients to the warmed glass, then top with fresh hot water and stir.
  6. Garnish with an orange peel.

  • Honey 1tsp
